2019 Provost’s Teaching Awards 41st All-Ireland Schools of Pharmacy Conference The School hosted the 41st All-Ireland Schools of Pharmacy Conference, which took place over two days in April 2019. The conference was attended by academic staff and postgraduate students from the five pharmacy schools on the island of Ireland. This annual event encourages cross school collaborations and facilitates knowledge sharing. L-R: Professors Conor McGinn, Helen Sheridan, Celia Holland and Tara Mitchell with Provost, Dr Patrick Prendergast The School would like to extend a huge congratulations to Associate Professor Helen Sheridan on her Provost’s Teaching (Excellence in Teaching) Award, acknowledging Dr Sheridan’s excellence as a committed, enthusiastic and inspiring teacher over a career spanning 34 years. The awards celebrate academic staff who have made an outstanding contribution in the pursuit of teaching excellence in the University and who promote teaching as a scholarly activity. The winner of the ‘best oral’ presentation was Erin Magee from Queens University Belfast and the ‘best poster’ presentation was awarded to Trinity Senior Sophister students Cliodhna Egan, Niamh Loughlin, and researchers Laura Rodriguez, Ketty Salerno and Nadhim Hante. The work presented in their poster entitled ‘Investigating the blood compatibility of gold nanoparticles developed for the treatment of prostate cancer’ is part of an ongoing project in collaboration with Professor Justin Holmes from UCC and Associate Professor Kamil Rahme from Notre Dame University-Louaize (Lebanon). Siham Boumhaouad conducted research on the use of manganese aerosol in MRI for lung metastasis detection in the School as part of her internship, and under the supervision of Dr Oliviero Gobbo and Dr Omar Mamad.
