Routes to Further & Higher Education Trinity Access has a long-standing commitment to community values. Since 2004, we have collaborated with three City of Dublin Education and Training Boards (CDETB) on Partnership University Access Courses. These courses in Pearse, Plunket, and Liberties Colleges cater for up to 75 students every year. Our partnership provides students with a pathway to Higher Education, supporting their exploration of third level degrees through targeted activities in the University. We have welcomed 319 students to Trinity for degree studies since the partnership began. Enhancing partnerships between Further Education (FE) and Higher Education (HE) is a key objective of our University and the National Access Plan. Trinity has committed to increasing numbers of applicants from Level 5 and 6 Quality and Qualifications Ireland, Further Education and Training (QQI-FET) Awards. With this goal in mind, we have expanded the existing QQI-FET routes and established new progression pathways across all faculties in the University. We are delighted to now have a dedicated FET project officer on our team, to continue the mission of diversifying admission routes to the college. We are extremely keen to expand this programme as it will provide a new opportunity for Trinity Access to support students to achieve their dreams of studying in Trinity. Leah Heron Student Profile: Leah Heron: Zoology Killester College of Further Education "If you are passionate about something then it is worth going for it. When I decided to make a career change, I wanted to test things out first with a one-year FET course. The course helped me to gain some experience in Higher Education and figure out what I would like to study. I ended up doing two years in Killester College and came to the realisation that I could actually go into study full-time. I applied to Zoology (via Science) at Trinity and fortunately, I got in! The course itself was taught by leaders in the field of Zoology. I felt privileged to learn from them, ask them questions and discuss different topics with them – and they were always happy to have a chat. It’s not always easy, but the staff and students are there to help you to succeed." Leah is now fulfilling her dreams and is working as Zookeeper.
