Approval of building materials in the installation There is a distinction between the building materials (components) for drinking water and other building materials in the installation. All building materials for the installation can get a water and sewage approval, but components in contact with drinking water must also have an “Approved for drinking water” approval, also called a “drop mark.” Building materials in contact with drinking water According to the Danish Building Regulations 2015, section 8.4.2.4, paragraph 2, building materials in fixed installations that are in contact with drinking water must be approved by the Danish Transport and Construction Agency in accordance with the “Danish Executive Order on the issue of approvals for building materials in contact with drinking water.” These building materials must be labeled “approved for drinking water” or “drop marked” on the label either attached to the building materials or on the packaging. In special cases it may be permitted for the label to be in the accompanying document, e.g. for very small building materials. Before they can be approved, building materials must pass a test at an accredited laboratory, which ensures documentation for contamination from a number of substances, included lead, cadmium, and nickel. Color, odor, and taste are also included in the assessment of the building materials. This label must be applied to the approved building materials: Building materials in the "non- fixed" installation do not have to be approved and labeled with “approved for drinking water” or “drop marked.” For these building materials, the provisions on building materials in contact with food that fall under the responsibility of the Danish Nature Agency apply. For these building materials, there are no specific labels to add, so the necessary documentation for contaminants of drinking water must be available on request. This product group includes e.g. coffee machines, American refrigerators with the option of water dispenser, ice machines, etc. Additional information: www.godkenttildrikkevand.dk
