52 6 Welcome to the Michaelmas issue of Trinity Today The students are back and the new academic year is beginning: welcome to the Michaelmas issue of Trinity Today . Novelist Paul Murray, BA (1997), Skippy Dies and The Bee Sting , is the current Rooney Writer Fellow in the Long Room Hub. His work engages with the question, ‘what is a 21st century person?’. This question lies at the heart of the innovative research being carried out across the university. In this issue, we take a look at Trinity research into sustainable aviation, AI and psychedelics as a treatment for depression and addiction. Research is the cornerstone of a Trinity education. In these pages, graduates – from AI entrepreneur, Garry Tiscovschi, BA (2021) to Visiting Terry Pratchett Fellow, publisher Colin Smythe, BA (1963) – reflect on how their time at Trinity helped shape their careers. We also honour the legacy of Professor Gerald Dawe, whose profound influence as a poet, educator, and founder of Trinity’s Oscar Wilde Centre for Irish Writing is beautifully reflected on by his colleague, Professor Tom Walker. As a university, we are dedicated to providing every student with an inspiring education built on research and a rich student experience. Trinity is so diverse in heritage, history and experience: can its story be told in 50 objects? Our wonderful new publication, Trinity in 50 | The Story of a University , takes on this challenge. Enjoy reading. Stay in touch and we hope to see you back on campus soon. Kate Bond Chief Advancement Officer
