THE RECIPIENTS OF THE 2022 TRINITY COLLEGE DUBLIN ALUMNI AWARDS ARE: Jack Kavanagh Pharmacy (2017) I’m incredibly grateful and inspired by the work I get to do every day, the places I get to inhabit, and so much of that was made possible by my time in Trinity. Susan Ahern Law (1994) The minute I walked in to Front Square I knew I was at home… Trinity gave me the educational foundation that I needed to start my career but it also gave me the courage and confidence to be myself. Ciaran Lee Computer Engineering (2004) Trinity has been a really big part of my journey. I fell in love with computer programming in my first year and by the end of year one I knew that’s what I wanted to do in some way. I grew and changed a lot here; the people and the environment really shaped me. Trinity has been such a positive force which I’m so grateful for. Dr Samuel Lam Medicine (1963) I came to Trinity as a teenager in 1957. It was the first time away from home. Half a world away. The friendship and reception I received in Trinity made it much easier for me… Now 60 years later, the knowledge I gained is still useful to me every day. Trinity made me a more well-rounded person. Declan Sheehan (posthumous award) Economic and Social Studies (1985) Declan’s brother Stephen accepted the award on Declan’s behalf Declan was very proud to call himself a graduate of this university. He contributed financially to many college activities including supporting students through the Grattan Scholarship programme. Where Declan really made a difference was donating his time. He was of great value to the university as a chair, as an advisor and as a leader. Eoghan McCabe Computer Science (2006) Hearing the stories of the people that have come before us nurtured my ambition and certainly inspired me to greatness. I was always a dreamer and I remain a dreamer. I really did feel a certain magic walking through these grounds and that should not be underestimated; the people, the place and the ideas. Emer Cooke Pharmacy (1982) & Master in Business Administration (1991) Trinity taught us to be independent thinkers, innovators, to do things differently. But what I really take from my time at Trinity is the friendships I’ve made. David Duffy Business Studies (1984) The first thing Trinity gave me was confidence and understanding of the world, the opportunity and the willingness to ‘have a go’. The brand of Trinity as a graduate opened so many doors. People often say you’re as rich as the friends you have in life. Those relationships you forge in college stay with you through good times and bad and I’m lucky to have every one of those friends today. Liz Bonnin Biochemistry (1992) I loved my time in Trinity. It truly strengthened my love of science and my passion for better understanding the beautiful complexities of the natural world. The entire experience has led me to where I am today, communicating the wonders of the natural world and of the importance of science. Paula Meehan English, History and Classics (1977) I felt like a glacial erratic when I came in to Trinity, like stones that are swept a long way from their home ground. I was certainly a long way from my cultural home ground which was the North inner city but I was nurtured in my inclination towards poetry and doors were opened and friendships grew.
