Trinity Sport Club Highlights 21/22 After two years of pandemic disruption, sporting fixtures and events are back and there has been no shortage of standout moments throughout the 21 / 22 season - here’s a look back at some Trinity Sport highlights DUHAC CELEBRATED 150 YEARS OF ATHLETICS WITH GOLD FOR THE WOMEN’S TEAM AND SILVER OVERALL AT THE IUAA CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS In March, DUHAC (Dublin University Harriers Athletics Club) hosted the annual IUAA (Irish University Athletic Association) Cross Country National Championships for the first time since 2018. DUHAC’s hosting of the event also marked 150 years of athletics in Trinity. DUHAC excelled on the day as the women’s team claimed gold for the third year in a row while the men’s team finished in fourth position. Trinity came second overall in the team competition, just behind Dublin City University. Celine Gavin ran in a time of 18:31 to claim the silver medal in the women’s 5,000m event, Jennifer Elvin was next over the line for Trinity in sixth position with a time of 19:01 while Claire Rafter finished in eight place overall. In the men’s race, Pierre Murchan finished the 8,000m race in eighth place overall. TRINITY NETBALL CONCLUDE SUCCESSFUL SEASON The Trinity Netball team recently concluded a fantastic season with a spectacular win over the Leinster Jaguars - overall, the team won 18 out of the 21 fixtures. With bonus points and an undisputed goal difference, it set the team as top of the league going into the semi-finals where they beat Boyne Netball Club. The team played both the semi-final and final on the same day which was a true test of their dedication, fitness and perseverance. The last match of the day was the final of division 2, between Leinster Jaguars and Trinity Netball Club. The final score was 51 to 21, however it did not reflect the amazing performance by the runners up, Leinster Jaguars. Caoimhe Sexton, Netball team captain, commented: ‘I am proud of this team, it has been one of the toughest seasons yet and I am over the moon that all the hard work has paid off. The final was our best performance yet, the girls made it look effortless with amazing goals from Floriane and Lola. It has been an absolute pleasure to captain this team.’
