&D FAR E LU A IE R MNNDIS I hope everyone is very well. Here in Trinity, it has been a truly historic month. As I’m sure you’ve heard, Professor Linda Doyle made history when she was elected the university’s first female Provost on 10 April. She will be the 45th Provost of the University and take over from the current Provost, Dr Patrick Prendergast, on 1 August this year. Linda is Professor of Engineering and the Arts at Trinity – her research is at the exciting interface of future networks/communications and creative arts practice – and, until recently, she served as the College’s Dean of Research. We look forward to interviewing Linda and introducing her to you in an upcoming issue. Also in April, we reached our ambitious Inspiring Generations campaign goal of 150,000 volunteer hours. To celebrate this fantastic achievement, we have stories showcasing the outstanding commitment of our alumni volunteers, in this issue and on social media through the month of May. A deep thank you to all of you who volunteered and helped us meet our goal. I wish we had enough pages to profile each and every one of you and the difference you have made in the lives of so many students. Elsewhere in this issue, we take a trip down memory lane into Trinity Balls past, in the hope and expectation of Trinity Ball 2022 emerging bigger, better and brighter than ever – our students deserve it. Finally, if you missed it, do take a look at the video of the 2020/21 Alumni Awards showing nine outstanding alumni honoured for their contributions to the arts, science, entrepreneurship and humanitarianism. Hearing how their college days inspired them in their future careers is a reminder of what the Trinity education means and why it matters.
