SHARE IT TRINITY TEAM LAUNCHES AN ONLINE TOOLKIT FOR FOOD SHARING INITIATIVES ACROSS THE GLOBE Food sharing initiatives are being established internationally which use smart technologies to scale-up their activities, as seen in peer-to-peer dining apps and food waste platforms. The ERC funded SHARECITY project has mapped these initiatives across 100 cities in the SHARECITY 100 database. This gives important visibility to these initiatives but tells us little about their contribution to a more sustainable food system. Yet many food sharing initiatives can make important social, economic and environmental contributions to societal issues such as food waste, food poverty or loneliness. In response, the SHARECITY team, led by Professor Anna Davies, Principal Investigator in the School of Natural Sciences at Trinity College Dublin, has developed SHARE IT. The first of its kind, SHARE IT is a free online toolkit for food sharing initiatives to identify, examine and communicate their social, economic and environmental impacts. The toolkit uses a new impact assessment framework, tailored specifically for food sharing. 3 SHARE IT has three functions: TOOLSHED Sustainability impact reports can be produced using the Toolshed, which link the activities of food sharing initiatives to specific sustainability indicators as well as broader UN sustainable development goals. TALENT GARDEN Talent Garden is a space for food sharing initiatives to publicise their activities and impacts. GREENHOUSE Greenhouse is where food sharing initiatives can connect with others around the world to share experiences and learn from each other.
