DAELUARMNI This has been a busy and exciting year for Trinity and as always, our alumni community has been a fantastic support. I hope you’ll enjoy this snapshot of what’s going on across campus and put some dates in your diary for upcoming alumni events. In May, Trinity took a big step towards the future with the launch of Inspiring Generations. We’ve had a great response from alumni and friends to this Campaign that will help Trinity inspire new generations of students and researchers to explore, excel and make discoveries that change the world. For me, one of the most inspiring Trinity stories is how the Trinity Access team has opened the way to third-level education for students from underrepresented communities. Since 1993, thousands of Trinity Access students have graduated – most of them the first in their family to do so. This year, we have 973 Trinity Access undergraduates and our outreach team is working with the next generation, 10,000 schoolchildren across 20 schools in disadvantaged areas. But the average cost of living for a student in Ireland, excluding tuition, is now around €12,000. Thanks to generous donors, Trinity Access offers essential financial support of up to €2,500 per year to each Trinity Access student to help with costs like rent, travel, textbooks and childcare. So please consider a year-end gift to Trinity Access of €25, €250 or €2,500. Your gift will help transform the life of a student who would otherwise struggle to stay in College. When I started college I was living in Drogheda, commuting back and forth and working a part-time job. I was pulling away from going to College society events or joining sports clubs and most importantly, it was eating into my study time. When I got the financial support from Trinity Access, I was able to move up to Dublin, I became a Students’ Union officer and I joined the soccer team. A Trinity Access student, 2019 Thank you for being part of the worldwide alumni community that helps students and ground-breaking research across every part of Trinity today. Wishing you and your fellow alumni a very happy, peaceful and inspiring Christmas… Warm regards, Kate Bond Director of Advancement Trinity Development & Alumni 2
