Dear Friends, I hope this finds you safe and well. Thank you for being a part of our Trinity community, which has rallied together in this time of crisis. Hopefully you got to read last week’s special Trinity ezine on our efforts to combat COVID-19. Thanks to gifts from alumni like you, Trinity’s Student Hardship Fund is supporting our students at this most difficult time. Many of our health science students, trainee nurses and doctors are carrying out vital frontline work in our hospitals. They are in particular need of practical and financial support. Several of our students have had to move out of their private rental lodgings. Some landlords are elderly or at greater risk of COVID-19 and are understandably concerned for their own health. We want to provide these students with all the help they need. Sadly, College cannot take them all into accommodation, as many of our still-resident students are either ill or self-isolating, and shared kitchens and bathrooms limit numbers. As Senior Tutor, I am writing to you today because Trinity’s students need your help. In most cases, these students do not have much money, are away from home, and do not have the time to search the Dublin rental market. Support from alumni like you can make a real difference by allowing us to help students find accommodation, subsidise rent and provide emergency grants. We are acutely aware that some people’s income has been hit immediately and significantly by COVID-19. We do not wish to put any additional burden on you if that is the case. But we know that others will be able to help us support our students at this unprecedented time. If that is you, please read on. So, what can we do together? My team and I are working tirelessly to provide all necessary extra supports and ensure every student has a safe place to live. The School of Nursing and Midwifery has contributed to the Student Hardship Fund to support this group of students. At a time when “isolation” and “distance” are the buzz words of the day, this act of solidarity and compassion is truly inspiring. As a fellow member of the Trinity community, I am asking for your help to build on this foundation of kindness. Will you please consider making a gift* of €250, €100, €50, or whatever you can, to our Student Hardship Fund emergency appeal? Your generosity today will ensure that we can answer the call from every Trinity student who needs help, during this crisis and beyond.
