New Generations: academic talent For Trinity to deliver our distinctive educational experience it is essential that we continually inspire and attract the brightest and best educators and retain a critical mass of senior academics across a wide range of fields. Bringing senior academics with an established track record in research excellence to Trinity enhances our research culture and amplifies areas where Trinity excels internationally. Excellence in leadership across many fields acts as a catalyst for interdisciplinary work that is increasingly where discoveries and breakthroughs are being made. New Generations supports academic talent at two levels: full professorial chairs and assistant professors. Each of the Inspiring Generations projects has ambitious targets around talent recruitment. For example: E3 will create 55 additional academic posts in a range of emerging disciplines including AI, Climate Science, Intelligent Systems and Smart Cities; The Trinity-St James Cancer Institute will create critical leadership posts in areas including Cancer Immunotherapy and Cancer Genetics; The Old Library is ensuring that critical posts, such as the Librarian and College Archivist, Chair of Research Collections and Keeper of Conservation, will be secured for the future. Eight philanthropically funded Assistant Professor posts have been secured for E3. Recruitment for these vital posts is underway and new, world-class researchers have already joined the E3 faculty. In Health Sciences, a generous bequest from Don Panoz is enabling us to create a new Chair of Pharmaceutical Biology. We are seeking support to establish a Chair of Climate Science, a Chair of Engineering, and a Chair of Cancer Immunology and appoint the first Executive Director of the Trinity St James’s Cancer Institute. Beyond the flagship campaign projects, there are opportunities for funding academic talent across all the disciplines. Inspiring Generations 3
