E3: Balanced Solutions for a Better World E3 is a landmark initiative by Trinity to develop sustainable solutions for a liveable planet across Engineering, the Environment and Emerging Technologies. The world is at a pivotal point - the combination of explosive technological advance with the critical need for sustainable solutions to global challenges like climate change and urbanisation, demands new thinking and new methods on every front. E3 is Trinity’s farsighted response to this demand: understanding that new global challenges won’t be solved by old ways of doing, E3 seeks to break down traditional silos between disciplines and sectors, and to rethink technology and our engagement with the natural world. E3 will co-educate and co-locate engineers, chemists, computer scientists, natural scientists, physicists and statisticians, enabling collaboration across the old divide of the natural and the engineered worlds. Through scale of operation and breadth of partnership with industry, research and public policy, E3 will achieve systematic innovation that drives new ways of thinking and doing. E3 is being developed in two phases. In phase 1, the Martin Naughton E3 Learning Foundry, scheduled to open in 2023-2024, will transform the way we educate STEM students; in phase 2 the E3 Research Institute, flagship of Trinity’s new technology campus, Trinity East, in the new Grand Canal Innovation District, will The Campaign for Trinity College Dublin 2
