A year characterised by COVI 2020 was strongly affected by the global COVID-19- pandemic. The virus shut down large parts of our society, but our customers, store owners, colleagues, suppliers and business partners cooperated and took responsibility in creating safe and secure surroundings in our stores. – There are so many people in our organisation and among our business partners that are taking responsibility and are dedicated and passionated in their area of expertise. It is the sum of their intentions and actions that really make a difference. Henrik Burkal, CEO REMA 1000 Denmark 2020 was an unusual year for all of us. The global COVID-19-pandemic temporarily halted many of our usual activities and initiatives. The pandemic forced us to think differently, to develop new concepts and measures and to e nter in new collaborations across the sector. Our store owners and colleagues worked hard to ensure that their stores were safe to visit, and our suppli- ers and business partners made a huge effort to get products and food on the shelves. We encountered a strong and proactive collab- oration across the retail sector, where there was daily contact about security measures during the most hectic days of March 2020. Partnerships and collective solutions Community, cooperation and partnerships have always been at the heart of our work to deliver ’discount with attitude’. However, in 2020, we were forced to cultivate a sense of communi- ty with no physical contact. Consequently, we were forced to pause many of our health part- nerships, sports camps and food academies, and we look forward to hopefully restarting these activities in 2021. Nevertheless, we have still launched several new projects during the global pandemic. We have, for instance, joined the partnership Danmark Mod Madspil (Denmark Against Food Waste) and we have become Sommerfuglepartner (Butterfly Partner) to the Danish Society for Nature Conservation.
