CEO’s Message Gene M. Murtagh CEO I am delighted to introduce our first Planet Passionate Report which covers our progress and achievements for the year 2020, a year that was unfortunately marked by a global health pandemic that is still affecting the livelihood of many people around the world and has often resulted in tragic loss of life. While we're navigating these uncharted waters together, our focus has not shifted away from the urgent, global environmental and societal challenges that we all face. We know that as a society we’re not moving fast or decisively enough to tackle these challenges and realise that our actions during this decade will have profound implications on the future of our planet. With roughly 40% of global greenhouse gas emissions attributable to buildings, we are uniquely positioned to help our customers transform the spaces where people live, work and play into sustainable, healthy and productive environments. Driven by our ambition to operate a sustainable business, we aim to provide the broadest possible spectrum of solutions to enable emissions reduction in the construction sector. Solutions that stand the test of time, with warranted performance, enabling building owners to reduce the whole life carbon impact of their buildings; our insulation products sold globally in 2020 are estimated to save 164 million tonnes of CO 2 e over their lifetime. Business must play a leadership role in tackling climate change and challenge ourselves to make greater progress, faster. Kingspan's journey began a decade ago when we set a target of achieving Net Zero Energy (NZE) across our global operations by 2020. Our global NZE team has worked tirelessly on the programme and after nine years of targeted investments and considerable effort I am proud to say that we have achieved our goal. This achievement is a testament to the dedication of our team and has built a solid foundation on which we build our Planet Passionate programme. In late 2019 we launched Planet Passionate, a programme that constitutes the ambitious, second leg of our sustainability journey. The programme forms the backbone of our strategy until 2030 and focuses on the most material sustainability topics to our business, putting emphasis on key areas where work is needed to ensure a sustainable future for the world. The programme’s overarching goals are to rapidly reduce our carbon footprint as we continue to grow our business, to further enhance the environmental benefits of our products and, finally, to better contribute towards the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Our efforts to progress our sustainability agenda in 2020 have naturally been affected by the global pandemic, but I’m happy to report that thanks to the efforts of our people around the world we made considerable progress against most of our targets due to a multitude of projects, including the deployment of several renewable energy and rainwater harvesting systems, zero emission cars and the recycling of 573 million PET bottles into our processes. Moving forward, we remain vigilant and we’re aware of the challenges we will face and will need to overcome. We must work more closely with our main suppliers if we’re to reduce our value chain emissions and will do our utmost to do so. We are very proud of the progress we’ve made through the efforts of all our employees around the world. We fully expect our people will help us to enhance our positive environmental and social impacts in the areas and local communities in which we operate. This report outlines how far we have come and how far we have yet to go. We appreciate your trust and support and invite you to follow us on our sustainability journey. Gene M. Murtagh CEO 3
